Keep your home safe when you are on holidays

Don’t let your home become a target this summer. This time of the year, when you’re away on holiday or off at the beach enjoying time with your families, it gives burglars a prime opportunity to gain access to your home.

While you’re out enjoying the summer make sure your doors and windows are locked and your alarm is set. And remember your home is 3 times more secure when monitored by Safenet Security.

Security may not be top of your mind, when you wake up, see the sun shining and rush off to the beach, but we have five quick and easy security tips to help better protect your home this summer.

1) Never Leave Door & Windows Unlocked

80% of break-ins occur through your front door, back door and back window. In the summer months, we like to air our homes when the sun comes out and it actually gets too hot and stuffy. However, remember that an open window or door is a main entry point for a burglar, so always lock your doors and windows when you’re not at home.

2) Lock Your Ladders Away In A Secure Garage

Burglars don’t really carry ladders, but they’ll happily use yours to gain access to upstairs windows. Homeowners often have ladders out in the summer when they’re cutting the hedges, emptying their gutters etc. By simply storing your ladder in a locked garage or shed, it could save your home against an intrusion.

3)  Move Your Keys Away From Your Letter Box

Burglars will always look for easy access to your home, to get in and out as quickly as possible. They may look into your letter box to see are keys close-by. If you leave keys near your door, you run the risk of getting them ‘fished’ out by an intruder. Always make sure your house or car keys aren’t visible or easy to access from a front or back door.

4) Never Leave A Spare Key Under A Mat, Flower Pot or Garden Stone

It’s something we’ve all been guilty of in the past. As family members are out enjoying late nights at festivals, beer gardens and last minute plans, it’s easy to text home ask someone to leave a key out but when you do this, you might as well leave the door wide open. Burglars will go from home to home searching under welcome mats and flower pots for a key, because you have to remember they want to make their job as easy as possible.

5) Secure your Home With A Monitored Alarm

The Safenet 24 hour monitoring systems are connected to their highly sophisticated 24-hour monitoring control center where there emergency response personnel are ready to deal with your alarm activations immediately. If something goes wrong, they will know instantly. They will then contact you, your keyholders and the relevant emergency service.

Safenet provides peace of mind to thousands of home owners across the country through its PSA approved partners. Any time your alarm is activated, you can be safe in the knowledge that one of our experienced controllers will be in contact with you within seconds. If we cannot get hold of you immediately, we will then proceed to contact your list of approved key-holders as supplied by you. In addition, we will also contact the Gardai for any verified alarm from your home. A ‘verified alarm’ means that two areas have detected an intruder. For example, our system can detect if a ‘contact’ on a window has been broken, followed by the intruder being picked up on a ‘movement detection’ beam. Smart Monitoring can also immediately respond to any panic alarm, fire alarm, or flood detection alarm if connected by your PSA installation company.
